Morgans and Part Morgans are bred at Okereru in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand.
Each year we have a number of offspring for sale. The Morgans are DNA tested and registered with The American Morgan Horse Association while the Part Morgans are registered with The New Zealand Morgan Horse Association.
All of our horses are micro-chipped.
At presesnt we are still deciding which way our breeding is to go as our stallion Chalk Mtn Nimble Spritepassed away in March 08
We have a couple of his offspring as options as a future stallion; but this means two of our Morgan mares are off limits as the cross would be too close.
We have six brood mares; Four Morgan (Armargh Joanna, Tui's Madeline, Twinhills Scarlett and Okereru Fire's Theme)and two Part Morgan.
The horses on our farm are generally run in two herds and rotationally grazed behind the cattle around the farm.
In the future we still plan to run the stallion with his mares and their foals until weaning time.
Though many breeders would hesitate in doing this we found that with Sprite's temperament he was very content and that we didn't have any problems with having them together in this way. He was gentle with the foals; the lead mare controlled the herd and the mares individually decided when they were ready to be served!
So we are hoping with the future stallion that this will still work.
Once the foals are weaned we move them off to a seperate herd to continue their education; not only from us but also from the older horses running on the property. This group includes the matriarch a Part Welsh mare who is the first horse we ever owned, she is now 28 years old and enjoying her retirement.
We occasionally run extra herds depending on what is going on with weanlings or un-gelded stock; or if a young horse needs that bit extra work...
Visiting mares are usually run seperately.
We train our horses using the techniques of Natural Horsemanship
Our farm is a mix of rolling and steep hill country and the soil is volcanic ash overlaying limestone which provides our horses with excellent agility and bone.
The property has two small QE Open Space Covenants to protect natural resources.
We make a selection of custom wood furniture for children / people with disability which may be funded by Enable or Accessible.
